BLACKOUT Friday…

In design realisation, it’s all about energy…

Energy to run our machinery, energy to wash our brushes and not to mention the energy it takes all of us to build and paint all the scenery and props.  But tonight, things are changing.  Before we leave for the bank holiday weekend it’s BLACKOUT time.

We’re taking 15 minutes at the end of the day to make sure:

  • All computers, monitors and printers are turned off at the wall
  • Any unused electrical items such as chargers and radios are turned off
  • All plug sockets are switched off at the wall
  • All lights are turned off.

We know these are things we should all be doing all of the time, but in practice this isn’t always the case.  The design realisation workshops are such a busy place that it is hard to know who has finished work for the night and sometimes things like radios and lights get forgotten.  But, if all the staff and students working in design realisation today takes a small amount of time as they leave to check their workstations and general areas to ensure everything is turned off, we might just make a small difference and reduce our energy waste over the bank holiday weekend.

And that’s what BLACKOUT Friday is all about; setting the example and making the effort to do our bit.

Think it’s a good idea? Why not do your bit…remember to turn off any used electrical items and lights before you leave work for the bank holiday weekend!
